Do not begin a course for ticket dismissal until your court confirms you are allowed to take defensive driving. Eligibility, deadlines, and provider approval all depend on the specific court that issued your ticket.
Provider licensing
DefensiveDrivingPlus.com is currently a preview MVP. We are not yet a Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) approved driver-safety course provider. Until our TDLR provider licensing is finalized, certificates issued by this Service are clearly marked as sample and are not valid for court submission, insurance discount, or driving-record adjustment.
Court acceptance is independent
Even after a provider is licensed, individual courts make their own decisions about which providers to accept and which violations are eligible for dismissal. Always confirm with the court that issued your ticket — typically before your appearance date — that:
- Defensive driving is an option for your specific violation.
- The course provider you intend to use is on their approved list.
- You understand the deadline by which a completion certificate must be submitted.
Common ineligibility reasons in Texas
- Holding a Commercial Driver License (CDL).
- Speeding 25+ mph over the posted limit.
- Violations in active construction zones with workers present.
- Passing a stopped school bus.
- Tickets involving serious bodily injury or fatality.
- Already used defensive driving for dismissal in the last 12 months.
