Type 2 vs Type 3A in Texas
Type 2 covers the last three years and isn't certified. Type 3A is the complete certified record. Pick wrong and the court sends you back to DPS.

Type 2 is the 'recent activity' record — three years of crashes and convictions, no certification. Type 3A is the complete certified record covering everything on file. They're priced differently, used for different purposes, and they aren't substitutes for each other.
Where drivers get tripped up
Type 2 omits anything older than 3 years, which can matter for court use.
Type 2 has no DPS seal — it's printed but not authenticated.
Most courts that ask for a 'certified driving record' will not accept Type 2.
Side-by-side comparison
- Type 2 — 3-year history, uncertified. Shows convictions and crashes from the last 3 years only.
- Type 3A — Complete history, certified. Shows everything DPS has on file, with a DPS signature and raised seal.
- Cost: Type 2 is the cheaper option; Type 3A costs more because of the certification process.
- Delivery: Type 2 can typically be downloaded immediately; Type 3A is mailed after DPS prints, signs, and seals it.
When Type 2 is enough
- You want a personal review of your recent driving history.
- An employer asked for a 'driving abstract' or 'recent driving record' — and didn't say certified.
- An insurance shop wants a quick history before quoting; they often accept uncertified.
When Type 2 is NOT enough
Anything that says 'certified', anything for a court hearing, and most CDL or DOT compliance reviews require certification. Default to Type 3A in those cases.
