Texas Type 3A: The Certified Driving Record
The Type 3A is your complete Texas driving record with the DPS certification (raised seal and signature) that courts, judges, and CDL employers require.

Texas DPS offers six different driver record types and the differences are mostly invisible until a court rejects yours. The Type 3A is the version that's both complete and certified — meaning it shows every crash and conviction on file, and it carries the official DPS seal that makes it admissible in court.
Where drivers get tripped up
Most drivers default-order a Type 3 (uncertified) and get sent back to DPS by the court clerk.
Insurance companies and employers will sometimes accept Type 2A, but courts almost always require 3A.
Texas DPS doesn't refund record purchases if you order the wrong type.
What's actually on a Type 3A
A Type 3A is the 'complete certified' record — it includes every crash and every conviction on file with Texas DPS, regardless of how old. It does not include sealed or expunged items. It is signed by the DPS custodian of records and bears a raised seal that authenticates it for court use.
- Personal info: name, address, DOB, driver license number, status.
- Endorsements and restrictions on the license.
- All crashes on file (date, location, basic details).
- All traffic convictions on file (court, citation, disposition).
- License suspensions, revocations, or surrenders.
- DPS certification (signature + raised seal).
Who actually needs a Type 3A (vs. some other type)
- A judge or court clerk asked for a 'certified driving record' — Type 3A is what that means.
- A CDL employer's HR / DOT compliance check requested a certified copy.
- An attorney requested it for a hearing, deposition, or trial exhibit.
- An insurance reinstatement or SR-22 process explicitly required certification.
Don't order a 3A if you don't actually need certification
Type 3A costs more than Type 3 and takes longer to arrive (DPS prints, signs, seals, and mails it). If you only need to look at your own record for personal review, a Type 2 or Type 3 is cheaper and instant.
Two ways to order a Type 3A
- 1
Direct from DPS (lowest cost)
Go to the official DPS driver records portal, verify your identity (name, DOB, DL#, last 4 of SSN, address), pay the DPS fee, and wait for delivery. Type 3A is mailed — usually 5–10 business days.
- 2
Concierge service (we order on your behalf — coming soon)
If you'd rather not handle the DPS portal yourself, we'll be offering a concierge service that orders the record for you and emails the official PDF when DPS releases it. We're finalizing this product — leave your email if you want first access.
You'll be taken to dps.texas.gov to complete the order
